Music City Central (MCC), MTA’s new downtown transit station, opens this fall, replacing the outdoor transit mall on Deaderick Street in downtown Nashville. The Grand Opening is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, and buses will roll for the first time from the new facility on Sunday, Oct. 26. The new transit station is next to Municipal Auditorium and is bordered by 4th and 5th Avenues North on Charlotte Avenue in downtown Nashville’s Central Business District.

“As we near completion of this long-awaited facility, we are extremely pleased that MTA customers will have a state-of-the-art climate-controlled transit station to purchase tickets, pick up schedules and wait comfortably for connecting buses,” Nashville MTA Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Ballard said. Plans for MCC have been in progress since 2004; the facility has been under construction for 15 months and is on schedule and on budget.

MCC will provide a warm and inviting environment for commuters and will bring the city in line with other markets of the same size that already have such a facility for transit customers. The station incorporates Nashville’s strong music foundation throughout its indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a strong sense of place for riders, visitors and employees.

The new station will serve up to 20,000 passengers each weekday. MCC contains space for all downtown transit operations, including space for buses and passengers, climate-controlled waiting rooms, restrooms, and retail businesses like a coffee shop or newsstand.

“The development of this new facility is the next essential step in building a world-class transit system in Nashville,” Ballard said. “Having the necessary infrastructure for our customers is a vital part of expanding the transit system, attracting new riders and becoming one of the solutions to the area’s traffic congestion problems.”
