Welcome to Music City Central
Music City Central (MCC), MTA's downtown transit station, opened in the fall of 2008, replacing the outdoor transit mall on
Deaderick Street in downtown Nashville. The Grand Opening was Friday, Oct. 24,
and buses rolled for the first time from the new facility Sunday, Oct.
26. The transit station is next to Municipal Auditorium and is bordered by 4th and 5th Avenues North on Charlotte Avenue in downtown Nashville's
Central Business District.
"We are extremely pleased that MTA customers now have a state-of-the-art climate-controlled transit station to purchase
tickets, pick up schedules and wait comfortably for connecting buses," Nashville MTA Chief Executive Officer
Paul J. Ballard said.
Plans for MCC have been in progress since 2004; the facility has been
under construction for 15 months and was completed on schedule and on budget.
MCC provides a warm and inviting environment for commuters and brings the city in line with other markets of the same
size that already have such a facility for transit customers. The station incorporates Nashville's strong
music foundation throughout its indoor and
outdoor spaces, creating a
strong sense of place for riders, visitors and employees.
The new station serves up to 20,000 passengers each weekday. MCC contains space for all downtown transit operations,
including space for buses and
passengers, climate-controlled waiting rooms, restrooms and small retail businesses, including Dunkin' Donuts and a small café.
"This facility is the next essential step in building a world-class transit system in Nashville," Ballard said.
"Having the necessary infrastructure for our customers is a vital part of expanding the transit system,
attracting new riders and becoming one
of the solutions to the area's traffic congestion problems."
